JW Marriott

Charlotte, NC

Marriott International’s JW Marriott brand debuted recently in North Carolina with the opening of the 381-room JW Marriott Charlotte. HKS Architects designed.

DPR Construction utilized SurePods to prefabricate 335 guest bathrooms offsite in a controlled warehouse environment and loaded them level by level into the 23-story building over a period of 13 weeks. According to Greg King, Assistant GM of SurePods, “In hospitality construction, bathrooms generate 80% of punch list and coordination challenges in a guestroom. By prefabricating the bathrooms entirely offsite, SurePods can help its hospitality clients across the U.S. to open early and get ‘heads-in -beds’ 2-3 months ahead of schedule.”

Infinity Drain worked with SurePods to customize their award-winning Stainless Steel Shower Base and Solid top grate style Linear Drains for the project. Infinity Drain’s customized Shower Bases have a lifetime waterproof guarantee to give clients peace of mind. And for SurePods, the Stainless Steel Shower Base solution offered significant manufacturing efficiencies. “The foundation of our business is built on efficiencies,” continued King. “Traditional foam-based shower pans create numerous elements and steps to our build process and Infinity Drain’s all-in-one solution is a great fit that saves us time and labor. We were able to work with Infinity Drain to get a dependable and unique customized product that fit our client’s design and our pre-fabrication needs.”

Inspired by Queen Charlotte, the city’s namesake, the JW Marriott Charlotte evokes the 18th century British queen consort through classic textiles balanced with a modern sensibility. The hotel’s design maximizes natural light as its guestrooms and most of the hotel’s 22,000 square feet of meeting space have floor-to-ceiling windows with city, stadium and vista views of greater Charlotte. In fact, according to SurePods, the bathrooms had the most glass ever produced for a pod and they ensured each pod arrived safely and intact.

The JW Marriott Charlotte is owned and operated by hotel ownership, development and management company White Lodging, which currently owns and/or operates approximately 90 hotels, 30 restaurants and bars and a collection of ranches. This is the third JW Marriott in White Lodging’s portfolio and is its first property in North Carolina.
