In a time where wellness is at the forefront of everyone’s mind, it is more important than ever to be mindful of the choices we make, in all aspects of life. Eating right, exercising routinely and getting enough sleep are great for reducing stress and boosting the immune system but are only part of the health and wellness equation.

Did you know, the environments you spend most of your time in, like your home, have a huge impact on your mental and physical well-being.

Learn how you can kickstart your healthy lifestyle by taking a holistic approach to your home’s design, starting with the bathroom. Whether you’re doing a simple refresh, remodeling an outdated space or starting a new build, we’re sharing our best tips you’ll want to incorporate to create a healthier and sustainable retreat to be enjoyed for years to come!

Connect with Nature

As of late, biophilia has become a key concept when it comes to wellness-focused interior design. It is the notion that humans possess a strong desire to connect with nature. Incorporating organic elements into built environments has been proven to reduce stress, enhance the mood, inspire creativity and purify the air.

A great way to subtly introduce nature to your bathroom is with small household plants. A sleek hanging planter or petite pot will fit seamlessly in any sized bathroom.

Reduce the Noise

Have you ever noticed how difficult it can be to focus or calm your mind in a room surrounded by clutter? The stress and discomfort brought on by messy space can have a serious negative impact on your mood, sleep and relationships with others.

As most of us prepare for the day ahead by getting ready in the bathroom or relaxing with a bath at the end of a long day, it is imperative to keep your space neat and organized. Cleaning can have a therapeutic and empowering effect on the mind.  We propose doing a deep clean/purge once or twice a year to cut down on useless or unused items and investing in an optimal organization system for your closet or vanity depending on the size of your bathroom.

Embrace Barrier-Free Design

Curbless showers and wet rooms have become increasingly popular over the last few years and it’s not without reason.

Not only are they designed to reduce or remove obstacles creating a convenient shower experience for people of all ages and abilities, but they also create a feeling of openness and present a sense of luxury and sophistication that cannot be achieved with a traditional floor-plan.

Try Chemical-Free Cleaning

If you clean your surfaces and shower with harsh chemicals there’s a good chance they will end up contaminating your products and penetrating your skin. Try incorporating surfaces can be cleaned organically.

We suggest upgrading your cloth or plastic shower curtain to a glass shower door. Shower curtains soak in moisture and lead to bacteria build-up. Glass doors are non-porous and can easily be cleaned with a chemical-free water, lemon and vinegar solution.

Tone Down Color

Did you know color plays a fundamental role in constructing a healthy environment? Designers and homeowners are now opting for softer shades that visually enrich bathrooms while creating an uplifting and comfortable environment. We recommend trying a neutral color pallet with shades of light grays, creamy pinks, muted blues and light beiges that are sure to evoke a spa-like atmosphere.
